Join me in supporting real change. Help us ensure that Aline & Caina can afford to attend college this fall!

The Education First 2016-2017 scholars from Boston are Aline Correira (primary winner) and Caina Damestoir (honorary mention). They both graduated from Brockton High school and have been accepted into several colleges despite all the challenges and hardship that they have experienced. Your donations will go a long way in helping them pay for their college tuition and book expenses.

More on our scholars:

Aline Correira: Aline first came to America in October 2011. Coming to the US was her dream but she did not speak any English. She overcame this hurdle by reading books and focusing on her studies and soon she was more comfortable speaking in school.

A year later her stepfather left and she and her family were forced to live in a shelter for a year. Again, she overcame this hurdle and refocused on school and her career goals. She noted that, "All the events that happened helped me transition from childhood to adulthood. I became more mature and independent." She applied for an internship as a medical interpreter at a local hospital and has enjoyed her work there.

Aline applied for the Education First scholarship on her own, without the assistance of a counselor or a teacher. She plans on becoming a doctor and will attend Bridgewater State University in September while working a part-time job to finance her education.

Caina Damestoir: It has been eight years since Caina has seen her mother. Since coming to America, Caina has lived with her aunt in Brockton. When she was a freshman at Brockton High School, she received mostly B's and C's but she avoided the honor's classes due to lack of confidence.

As her life has changed she has accepted new challenges. Now as a senior she is receiving strong grades in honor's English, psychology, Spanish, and business law. She was accepted at Suffolk University in Boston but was forced to decline because of expenses. She has no source of financial assistance, except herself. She has decided to attend Massasoit Community College for a semester and then transfer to Bridgewater State University to major in psychology. One of her dreams is to be financially secure enough to arrange for her mother to come to America from Haiti so that her family will be reunited.

Aline & Caina have accomplished so much already, but they have a long and exciting road ahead of them! We want to give them all of the support they need to earn their college degree and achieve their dreams. With your help we can give them their best chance for success!!
